Departing early morning from Glasgow, the shift is almost immediate. The city gives way to open countryside, rolling hills, and a sense of stillness that sets the tone for the day ahead. This is not a rushed itinerary or a checklist of landmarks. It is a carefully curated experience designed to immerse you in the quieter side of Scotland.

The journey begins at the Robert the Bruce Stone, a place where history and legend intersect. The Bruce Stone reflects a defining period in Scotland’s fight for independence. Standing here, you gain a clearer sense of the landscape that shaped that struggle and the resilience behind it.

From here, the tour moves forward in time while still holding onto tradition with a visit to Galloway Distillery. Founded by Sam Heughan and home to Sassenach Spirits, the distillery represents a modern expression of Scottish identity, rooted in heritage, craftsmanship, and home. Set within the backdrop of Galloway’s, it offers a different perspective on how Scotland continues to tell its story today.

Yet Galloway’s history stretches far deeper into the past. At Cairn Holy Chambered Cairn, you step back over  6,000 years into the Neolithic world. This standing stone burial site offers a direct connection to early communities, their beliefs, and their relationship with the land, something rarely experienced so tangibly. You may be able to try your luck at time travel.

The journey continues to Kenmure Castle, a striking ruin overlooking Loch Ken. Once a seat of power, it later hosted Mary, Queen of Scots and Oliver Cromwell, placing it within some of the most significant moments in British history. It also became linked to the Covenanters, reflecting a period of deep political and religious tension in Scotland’s past. Today, it stands as a reminder of the region’s layered and complex history.

This tour departs from Glasgow ONLY. If you are staying in Edinburgh or elsewhere, the trains to Glasgow are easily accessible & can be discussed within the booking process.

Due to the distance of Galloway, this tour requires an early start & can lead to a later finish.

To make the most of the day, lunch will be a quick grab & go from Newton Stewart’s local Sainsbury’s grocery store. You may also feel free to bring your own in addition to the water & snacks provided.
